“When I was last rac­ing in Eng­land there was Cal Crutchlow, Johnny Rea, Leon Camier, Tom Sykes and me, all bat­tling for wins and we could go and do world cham­pi­onships and be bat­tling to win. The level has al­ways been there and still is.”

Is he still rel­ish­ing the chal­lenge of en­gag­ing in bat­tle with foes old and new?

“The most im­por­tant thing for me is that I will be sat on that grid with a chance of win­ning,” Haslam said. “I have never had that in my whole ca­reer. I’ve been on bikes that I can win on but never been on the bike to be on. The Kawasaki is the bike to be on in WSB and I’ve made that move now with a very, very good team. It doesn’t make it any eas­ier to win but I be­lieve I can win and it is down to me.”
