‘I have beaten them before and I don’t see any reason why I can’t again’

Like his new team-mate Ian Hutchinson, Farquhar has never ridden a BMW before, but the 40-year-old is full of confidence as he faces the prospect of battling on the German superbike.

“There are quite a few riders out there who are well capable of winning but I’m not scared of any of them,” he declares.

“I have beaten them before and I don’t see any reason why I can’t beat them again on the right bike.”

“The last time I had a good go with Ian was in 2010 in the Superstock TT when he beat me by just 1.2

seconds,” recalls the Dungannon man. “Hutchy was at the top of his game then as he won five races that week. If I can get into that form I can be there or thereabouts.”

Michael Dunlop will be another Bmw-mounted rival at TT 2016.

“I have raced a lot against Michael Dunlop and I don’t ever remember doing a race with him finishing two weeks in front of me,” Farquhar smiles. “There have been quite a few times when he was riding a trick superbike and I was on the superstock bike so when we went to the bigger races I just hadn’t the pace. But I don’t think there is anyone who has a bike better than I have now and I am looking forward to having a go.”

Farquhar meets his Tyco BMW S1000RR for the first time Guy still has Tyco’s backing for this year’s TT should his cycle race fall through
