10 Penalty points
Sanctions for offences like dangerous riding or riding too slowly in qualifying were to be implemented again through the penalty points system.
But an 11th hour regulation change just two weeks before the first race means back-ofthe-grid and pit lane starts have been abolished.
The only punishment now is for a rider that reaches 10 penalty points within one calendar year and the sanction is a one-race ban.
Aside from penalty points, other sanctions like fines, ride through, time penalties and loss of championship points can still be handed out by a new Stewards Panel set up in the wake of the Rossi/ Marquez controversy in Sepang last October.
