£550 £435 BMW’S classic adventure suit is updated with a new, more comfortable material

The Rallye has been around in various guises since the year 2000. When Ewan Mcgregor and Charley Boorman filmed Long Way Round in 2004, they did so wearing Rallye 2 suits. The latest version keeps most of the proven design’s existing, well-developed features, but is now constructed from a new material called Protechwool. Where the outgoing Rallye 3 was made entirely from Cordura, a purely synthetic fabric, the new material incorporates 13% wool. BMW claim the use of natural fibres improves breathability, makes it more comfortable, and helps it dry faster.

Both jacket and trousers use a zip-out windproof and waterproof lining, called BMW Climate Membrane. Some areas of the lining, including the neck, shoulders, knees and seat, feature fleece to keep the rider warm, but there is no dedicated thermal lining. As a result, this is intended for on- and off-road adventure riding in reasonably pleasant climates, rather than winter commuting.

The suit comes with shoulder, elbow, knee and hip armour, as well as a back protector. In blue/grey there are 17 jacket and 21 trouser sizes, but in black/red there’s a reduced range. At £985, it’s £15 cheaper than before.
