All tyres are hidden in (unplugged) tyre warmers before the test begins. They’re new, unscrubbed and cold. Each tyre is tested for five laps and undergoes a 14-point assessment with scores out of 10 given to: warm-up time, handling lightness, steering consistency, tyre neutrality, stand-up on the brakes, ease of use, sporty character, stability, bump absorption, tyre deformation feeling, handlebar kick back (generated from rear tyre), contact feeling, cold grip and hot side grip. Lap times may seem irrelevant for a road tyre, but they generally go hand in hand with how well a tyre performs.
