BE WISER DUCATI
Glenn Irwin is the highest profile rookie in the 2016 BSB series. The 26-yearold Northern Irish rider has not just made the jump from racing in the Supersport championship on Gear Link Kawasakis but he is also understudy to Shakey Byrne in the PBM/BE Wiser Ducati squad.
Making the transition from a 600cc Kawasaki to the 220bhp V-twin Ducati Panigale will be a massive challenge for Irwin but he says he wants to learn from his vastly experienced team-mate.
“I have asked Shakey if I can spend more time behind him and he has said it is no problem,” Irwin explained.
Last season was an important learning year for Buchan as he made his first full-time step up to the premiere class which saw the youngster proving he was fast enough to cut it in British Superbikes. Helped by a stint at PBM after his Be Wiser Kawasaki team folded and now, under the wing of Moto Rapido Ducati boss Steve Moore, he’s got an opportunity to do good things in 2016 if he can maintain that consistency. Buchan says the 2015 season taught him plenty about race craft and that will stand him in good stead when the action kicks off.
