A wonder from down under
Q Phillip Island Motogp Q From £40 for a one-day ticket (plus travel to Australia) Q Phillip Island Motogp round Q October 21-23 Q www.motogp.com.au If ever there was a far-flung Motogp track worth making the effort of travelling most of the way around the planet to go and visit then Phillip Island is it. Sure there are track in Europe that offer spectacular racing, atmosphere and stunning scenery but they are around the corner when compared to the 26 hours of flying it takes to get to Melbourne from the UK. The reward when you get there from the most scenic of all the current Motogp tracks is well worth the trip and the expense.
Phillip Island is on the southerly tip of the state of Victoria and it takes around two hours to drive there from Melbourne airport. Just watch out for the insanely zealous Australian police who have no mercy when it comes to speeding; even by the tiniest of margins.
The track itself is on the coast of the south of Phillip Island itself and despite the big crowds the Aussie race attracts each year, because the venue is so vast it never feels horribly busy. There are lots of camping facilities around the track and the resort of Cowes is well stocked with rental accommodation.
