The ultimate bike race
Q Peoria TT Q £17 on the gate plus travel and accommodation) Q AMA Pro Flat Track, Peoria TT Q August 14 Q Peoria, Illinois, USA Q www.peoriamotorcycleclub.net All of the AMA Pro Flat Track events are pretty nuts but the Peoria TT takes that to another level. Normal AMA Flat Track involves haring around a dirt track with a series of left turns only in one of two classes. GNC1 is open to a wide variety of bikes with engine capacity ranging from 550cc to 1250cc and the ever-popular Harley-davidson Sportster remains a leading bike but newer competition has been doing well. Speeds can reach up to 130mph on the mile-long ovals. In GNC2 heavily modified 450cc four-stroke motocross bikes lap speeds of up to 115mph.
Now imagine that scenario being played out on an undulating track with a massive jump which throws the bikes into the air.
Well, that’s the Peoria TT and it’s one of the most historic of the AMA Pro Flat Track events held across America. And unlike other AMA events, the bikes have a front brake fitted as the track turns left and right.
You can get really close to the action and see the bikes and riders hurtling along and over the jumps. It’s a trip of a lifetime for anyone after something a little different. The nearest major airport is the busy Chicago O’hare and there is a wide variety of airlines that fly from the UK. It’s then either another 45 minute connection flight or a twoand-a-half hour drive to the track.
