Ducati riders completely dominated the first ever multi-team test at the new Red Bull Ring in Austria setting them up perfectly to secure their first Motogp victory since 2010.

Taking to the track alongside most of their opposition (with the exception of Repsol Honda Ð see page 70) in preparation for next monthõs race, the Italian manufacturer ruled proceedings securing the top four fastest times. Hard-charging Andrea Iannone set the benchmark with Andrea Dovizioso second, but it was official test rider Casey Stoner who stunned the opposition finishing third fastest ahead of bitter rival Valentino Rossi in fifth.

Even before any of the teams had even turned a wheel, the new circuit was predicted to suit the characteristics of the Desmosedici thanks to its combination of slow corners, short accelerations and long straights.

Speaking after the test, second place man Dovizioso said: Òthe track has some aggressive first and second gear acceleration areas and quite long straights, so it is suitable for the characteristics of our bike, and as a result it was quite easy to lap quickly. It was great to be constantly quick, even though itõs not one of the biggest and most spectacular venues, it is in any case interesting to lap on a new circuit.ó

Having failed to exploit the chances to secure victory earlier in the season, Dovizioso admitted that the Austrian circuit might well bring the Bologna firmõs best chance of Grand Prix victory this season.

ÒI am pleased with my Desmosedici GP on this track, because we can exploit our potential to the maximum and I believe that we can be really competitive in the race. These were two days of very positive tests for us, we worked hard on many different aspects of the bike, as well as preparing for the race in the best possible way. We have been competitive and we can still improve.

Ònow we have to understand what tyres Michelin will bring for the race because it was also an important test for them. Here the tyre wear is particularly high because the bike tends to slide about on maximum lean and it spins a lot on the straight, so doing an entire race distance without any problems is going to be difficult.ó Q Motogp hits the Red Bull Ring on August 14.
