What’s good? I’ve worn Alpinestars Supertech R boots ever since the Italian firm released them and, despite trying several other brands down the years and boots, I’ve never found anything that could match them for comfort or protection at a similar price. Until now. These S-MX Plus jobbies are superb for all-day comfort, without relinquishing much in terms of performance. They feel well constructed, and the lining is plush enough that a full day on the bike, combined with a lot of wandering about off it, can be dispatched without sore soles or chafed calves. I wear these boots every day (rain or shine), and they’ve stood up well. The new screw-fixed toeslider system is a big improvement over the old clip-in version too.
What’s not? The white areas of the synthetic upper are hard to keep spotless. The price is quite high, but commensurate with the quality. I reckon that if you’re an average rider, these will last a decade.
Toesliders Much-improved design sees them hook in at the front of the slider, then fix at the rear with an Allenhead bolt. Internal sock Sewn-in tongue and draw-cord tensioning system is comfy and adds another layer of security. Clasp New design is easy to flip out with your thumb, without feeling like you need to rub it better afterwards.
