VERDICT ‘Kawasaki’s Versys 650 is still the pick of this category’
MICHAEL NEEVES SENIOR ROAD TESTER
After a day of both two-up and solo riding on a variety of roads, Kawasaki’s Versys 650 remains MCN’S pick in this category. The Versys is the most complete, affordable, mid-capacity adventure-sport machine. But perhaps the biggest surprise is how the evergreen Suzuki V-strom snatched runner-up spot. It feels a lot more modern and spritely than its looks suggest, and is a superb two-up option.
Yamaha’s new Tracer 700 lacks the sparkle of the naked donor bike and feels a little small and cheap in this company, although it’s still hugely capable and best of all, affordable at just £6299. It deserves to be a great success.
Bringing up the rear is the Beemer. Although the engine lacks thrills, it has a great chassis, the best build quality and mpg, but it’s also much more expensive than the others here.
