‘My Harley might not have won Bike of the Night, but did raise a few admiring glances’

top of the seat made the trip more comfortable.
The plan was to spend time exploring the New Forest and visit the Sammy Miller Motorcycle Museum. This treasure trove of road and race bikes with over 300 models on display in renovated farm buildings was great. It was well worth visiting. Not only did I see some great machinery, I also met the man himself and sampled great homemade cakes in the on-site cafe.
After days of bad weather, the sun shone through for the weekly Poole Quay bike night. With the streets surrounding the quay closed off to through traffic, hundreds of bikes turned up for the event. I was pleased I’d made the journey; it was a great evening and seeing such an eclectic mix of motorcycles line the streets with non-biking holidaymakers also enjoying the spectacle can only be a good thing for biking and should be encouraged.
My little Harley Street 750 might not have won Bike of the Night at Poole Quay, but it did raise a few admiring glances and made me happy I’d weathered the storm for the trip.
