Former World Champions and some of the legends of grand prix racing will be at this year’s OCTO British Grand at Silverstone on September 1-4 to pay tribute to Britain’s Barry Sheene.
Forty years on from Barry’s first world title his arch-rival Kenny Roberts will ride his title-winning OW48R 500cc Yamaha, an iconic machine that contributed to the American’s three world titles in 1978-80. Graeme Crosby will also ride his 1981 Suzuki XR35.
Five times 500cc world champion Mick Doohan will make the trip from his Australian home, as will Wayne Gardner who will debut a replica Moriwaki Kawasaki – the machine he made his name on – in the display laps.
The machines lining up for the Barry Sheene Tribute laps will all be displayed in the Motogp Tented Village along with Barry’s 1976 and 1977 titlewinning machines for the entire four days of the Motogp weekend.
The new-for-2016 Tented Village is adjacent to the entertainment zone which offers a range of attractions including a fun fair, audience participation rides and a number of children’s fun activities. The entertainment zone features the main stage where Rick Astley will perform on Saturday evening. Race fan Rick will perform his classic hits along with tunes from his new album ‘50’.
Stage action also includes Europe’s best Elvis tribute, The Rebel, on Friday evening, and all-girl band Stooshe supporting Rick Astley on the Saturday.
The riders will also be present for the 2016 Day of Champions on Thursday September 1 to ensure that this year’s four- day festival will be one to remember. Turn your British Motogp into a full weekend festival, book your tickets now at www.silverstone.co.uk.
