Big hitters join WSB party
The 2017 World Superbike grid looks set for a much needed shake-up with a host of moves set to inject a fresh round of interest into the series.
As reported in last week’s MCN, Aruba Ducati have now officially confirmed that Marco Melandri will join Chaz Davies aboard the Panigale R next season, with the Italian returning to action after an 18-month hiatus following his short and ill-fated Grand Prix return with Aprilia in 2015.
It has also been confirmed that 2011 Moto2 world champion Stefan Bradl will join Nicky Hayden in the Honda Racing squad next year, with young Dutchman Michael van der Mark expected to leave Honda to join Britain’s Alex Lowes at PATA Yamaha.
Van der Mark’s move looks likely to leave Sylvain Guintoli out in the cold for 2017 after two tough seasons for the Frenchman since winning the world title with Aprilia in 2014. Where he might end up remains to be seen, but there is already strong rumours of a return to the British Superbike paddock.
