Buying a used adventure bike
Take your time and check everything
It’s not a problem for adventure bikes to have high mileages, but make sure the bike you’re interested in has a full dealer service history.
Most bikes will have aftermarket parts fitted. Are these genuine manufacturer accessories? Have they been fitted by a dealer? Are there spare keys to the panniers? Do the heated grips work?
Three of our four test bikes would have benefited from fresh rubber. Squaredoff tyres are common.
Some adventure bikes will have been taken off-road, so look underneath for damage to sump and exhaust.
A few off-road scars aren’t necessarily a problem but scuffs or dings should be reflected in the price.
