Dundrod has not been a happy hunting ground for Michael Dunlop in recent years with his name failing to appear on the winner’s list since 2013.

His record-breaking victories in the Superbike and Senior TTS, as well as his success at the North West 200, Southern 100 and Armoy, created an air of expectation around the Ballymoney man.

But his roads racing domination came to an abrupt end. Despite being in the mix in both Superbike races and in the stocker event on his own MD Racing BMW he couldn’t quite match the pace of Hutchinson or Anstey.

“It was a great race but they just had better pace,” the bitterly disappointed 27-year-old said after failing to provide his huge legion of local fans who lined the Dundrod hedges with the win they craved.

Close but no cigar for Michael Dunlop
