New gearbox helps Scot’s team hit top

Mcphee says his success is largely down to a new gearbox on his Peugeot-branded Mahindra machine. He received it two rounds ago at Sachsenring and it has helped revolutionise the machine’s performance.

Built by English firm Nova, the new box fixes a recurring issue with the original part that saw the bike spontaneously jump out of gear – and has brought with it a newfound confidence for the Indian manufacturer’s 10 riders.

“For confidence, the new gearbox helps massively. In terms of lap times, we’ve seen already that it doesn’t make a huge improvement, but we’ve all become much more consistent since. It’s one less thing to worry about now, and one less thing to go wrong.

“There might be one tenth of a second a lap in it, but over a race it works perfectly every lap. It has an effect, especially in these races, and Nova has produced a brilliant box for us.”
