Jorge Lorenzo saw his chances of defending his Motogp title slip even further away after yet another disappointing wet race. The Movistar Yamaha rider was unable to make the softer option wet front tyres last the distance, suffering the same fate as the factory Ducati pair of Andrea Iannone and Andrea Dovizioso as their tyres fell apart.

“When I stopped the bike in the pits the team didn’t understand what was going on, because the hole in the tyre was on the bottom, and the tyre looked perfect. They didn’t know why I wanted to change the bike – and the other one had slicks on. The track was too dangerous for it, and it wasn’t worth trying to stay on track.

“It was very bad luck, because like Dovizioso and Iannone we couldn’t finish the race with that tyre, even when I had been the fastest person on track along with Cal and Rossi. I could have finished third, and maybe even second.”

Lorenzo’s tyre choice didn’t work out and the title is slipping from his reach
