After crashing out last year, Marquez wants to prove he can master the British GP

Marc Marquez has a point to prove at Silverstone after a disastrous race last year. And he’ll be determined to keep his arch rivals at arm’s length in the title chase.

Crashing out of the race while battling Valentino Rossi for the win in treacherous conditions, the Spaniard says that there’s unfinished business at the Northamptonshire track.

“When you crash you always want to come back to get that winning feeling back! It’ll be another interesting race again this year though, because the weather there is always a question mark.”

Taking a win at the British Grand Prix – something that he’s proved well capable of doing in the past – would give the double world champion a chance to put one hand on the 2016 title. And while he admits that the track can be one of the most difficult and unpredictable of the season, it should also help to neutralise the points his rivals have clawed back in recent weeks.

“Of course I’m looking forward to Silverstone because it’s a circuit that I really like. It’s got many bumps, it’s difficult to ride, and it has tricky weather, but it’s also quite even.

“Silverstone is a fast and wide track and I think it is hard to find a rider that doesn’t like it. The first section with all the chicanes is crucial to your lap time. If you can get through that part fast and consistent you can make a good lap time. Finding a set-up can be tricky.”

Containing a nice mix of both fast and slow corners, it should mean that the high-speed advantage of the Ducatis will be slightly nullified. And fast corners like Woodcote should also help the Repsol Honda rider, as the difficult-to-manage RC213V is not the best bike pushing hard out of tight bends.

He added: “If the weather is dry, then Jorge will be fast. The Ducati riders will be fast too though, because there are some big accelerations for them. With Valentino, we don’t know. It’s a circuit where he’s struggled a little bit more in the past – but then last year he won! But it’s a nice circuit and I always enjoy it there.”

Winners! Marquez and Repsol Honda did the business at Silverstone in 2014 Marquez hopes to have another trophy to match his 2014 one In Moto2 2012, Marquez could only manage third place
