ROSSI’S FIRST 500 WIN
July 9, Donington Park Valentino Rossi had already won the 125 and 250 world titles but he had to wait a while to get his first win in the premier class and he had to work hard for it too. After a race-long scrap with Kenny Roberts Junior and Jeremy Mcwilliams, he finally hit the front with three laps to go. Jezza was slip-sliding his Aprilia all over the Donington tarmac as Rossi kept his cool on a drying track to fire his Honda over the line in front of his hard-riding rivals. Roberts managed to stuff it up the inside of Mcwilliams on the last lap at the Melbourne Loop and the top three were separated by less than a second at the chequered flag.
