Other great modern engines
The inline six As found in BMW K1600-series models. BMW’S K1600 motor is the most compact six-cylinder engine ever made and produces 70% of its torque at just 1500rpm. Sublimely smooth.
As found in BMW R-series bikes, Urals and Dneprs. The powerhouse of BMW since 1923 has been the boxer engine, so called because its pistons’ motion mimics a boxer’s fists punching.
The parallel-twin As found in Yamaha MT-07 models, Kawasaki ER-6 models, Honda CB500 models, Triumph Bonneville and Street Twin and many more. The parallel-twin is rapidly becoming the most popular engine of the 2000s due to its performance and ease of build. It is used in everything from a modern retro to adventure bikes.
The transverse V-twin
As found in Moto Guzzi models. Moto Guzzi’s transverse air-cooled V-twin is a trademark look of the Italian firm. Modern Guzzis remain air cooled thanks to the heads being in the airflow.
The flat six
As found in Honda Gold Wing, F6C and F6B. The turbine-like flat six is one of the smoothest engines ever made and a joy for tourers. The Wing’s flat six packs more grunt than an international weight lifter.
