Lost but not forgotten…
The extreme V4
As found in Honda NR750. One of the most technologically advanced engines ever built, the NR’S V4 had oval pistons, twin conrods and eight valves per cylinder. A modern folly, but wonderful.
As found in Everything from scooters to GP bikes. Now largely dead due to emissions laws, the smoker’s days were both glorious and polluting.
The Wankel As found in Rotary Nortons. Was it 588cc, was it far larger? No one really knew, but the Wankel name made many a grown man snigger, and the JPS race bikes were a glorious sight and sound.
With pistons the shape of spam tins, the mad NR750 also boasted twin rods and eight valves per cylinder
Rotary’s capacity was hard to fathom
