ANSTEY BREAKS 250 LAP RECORD
Kiwi veteran Bruce Anstey smashed John Mcguinness’s 1999 250cc lap record on his way to winning the inaugural 250cc Classic TT race on the Valvoline Padgetts RS250 Honda at the weekend.
The 47-year-old, who won the last 250cc TT race in 2002, led the field down Bray Hill and was never seriously challenged, winning by over a minute from Ian Lougher on the Laylaw Yamaha and third placed Phil Harvey (CSC Racing Honda).
Anstey’s new record of 118.774mph, set on the second lap, was almost 0.5mph faster than Mcguinness’s longstanding record.
“It’s so good to be back on a 250 and I enjoyed it all the way,” the 11 times TT winner grinned.
“The bike was so easy to ride and I just had to keep the corner speed up, going from white line to white line.”
