“Un­til Mav­er­ick won at Sil­ver­stone I was the only Suzuki rider to have won a four-stroke Mo­togp race, which has been a great hon­our for me over the last nine years - but I knew this day would come.

“I thought Mav­er­ick rode close to the per­fect race. My first thought was has he made the right de­ci­sion go­ing to Yamaha next year? At Sil­ver­stone the GSX-RR looked on rails; it was more than a match for the M1.

“Al­though the GSX-RR has some weak­nesses with rear grip on hot­ter tracks, over­all it is a strong pack­age with strengths in cor­ner en­try, agility and car­ry­ing speed in fast turns. Mav­er­ick used those strengths per­fectly at Sil­ver­stone.

“As an ex-suzuki rider I’ve got a soft spot for the team and when Mav­er­ick went hard in the lead I was hop­ing he hadn’t cooked the tyres.
