Why have spots appeared on my iridium visor?

Motorcycle News (UK) - - Garage -

I recently purchased an iridium visor for my Arai helmet and have been cleaning it with a mixture of water and washing-up liquid. The visor is only three weeks old, but it has developed spots all over it and they can’t be rubbed away. James, Newark

Answered by Colm Curran, www. thevisorshop.com When cleaning iridium visors, you need to use only warm water and a soft cloth. Specialist cleaners are on the market, but washing-up liquid contains small bits and pieces like grit. This and harmful chemicals eat away at the visor and ruin it. Be careful – there’s a lot of stuff on the market that doesn’t agree with these visors and chemicals found in cleaners will also dissolve the iridium coating and cause the problems you describe.

Iridium visors require very gentle care
