Pedrosa win helps Marquez in title race
One person who benefitted greatly from Dani Pedrosa’s Misano victory was his team-mate Marc Marquez, as his fellow Repsol Honda rider helped control the damage Valentino Rossi was able to do to Marquez’s title lead by taking away valuable points.
Struggling all weekend to make use of the new-construction front tyres Michelin brought to Italy and forced to race on the harder option that retained the old construction, Marquez might have lost out on his target of a podium finish – but says he did the best he could.
“We can say that I chose the best option of tyres for me. It was a completely different choice from the others, but the main problem during the race instead was that I was unable to use the new tyres that Michelin brought. I was struggling a lot, and I didn’t find the best feeling all weekend.
“For some reason, my rhythm was similar to what I had in free practice four, but the others were able to go a lot faster, even Dani. In one part of the race, I was very fast – but I felt that if I continued riding like that, there was more possibility of crashing than finishing on the podium! I just waited in fourth place, hoping that Dani would win the race and make sure that Valentino would get fewer points!”
And with his lead in the championship still 43 points as the series returns to Aragon and his native Spain, the 23-year-old sees little
Marquez didn’t gel with the new front tyre, but Pedrosa did
