Ducati 600 Monster (1993-2001)
Smallest Monster, and the 600 motor suits it better than it does the 600SS that donated it – it’s incredibly tough and can be tuned for more bhp if you want. Other selling points? Lovely handling, bog-basic servicing costs, light on tyres and brake pads, and 50mpg is easily attainable. Cheap insurance, too. Finish on the engine is poor, it really isn’t a bike for winter, and limited steering lock makes it a bit of a mare in city traffic, but it’s an excellent intro into Ducati ownership. The Dark model is slightly cheaper but has the same engine. What you’ll pay now £800-£1800 But should you? Oh yes. And if you don’t like it, it’ll be easy to sell on afterwards.
Little Monster is agile, frugal and fun
