Q Why is my 883 fouling a plug?

Motorcycle News (UK) - - MCN Garage -

My 2004 Sportster Custom 883 is fitted with Screaming Eagle 2 pipes. She starts fine, but fouls the front plug very quickly. What’s the cure? Will Pollard, email

Answered by Andy Forbes-Buckingham, AFB Motorcycles If it is smoking from the front cylinder then there could be a valve stem seal issue. If it is still burning cleanly it could well be a defective coil. The Dual Fire system features a double outlet on the coil and if you reverse the plug leads you could see if the plug-fouling switches to the rear cylinder.
