Q Does it matter which bike-type I use for CBT?
I have just passed my Compulsory Basic Training on a twist-and-go scooter, but I am not sure whether this covers me to ride a geared bike? Paul, Manchester
Answered by Simon Rickman, the Right Way Motorcycle Training A CBT pass on an automatic scooter ‘qualifies’ you to start riding a geared bike on a provisional licence at the moment.
This is the one part of the motorcycle licence process that most instructors think needs tightening up. It’s a regular topic between us all at workshops and the DVSA are aware of the situation.
A lot of us think the rest of the bike test curriculum is already too hard, so I’d look for some give-and-take by Government; tightening up CBT and going easier on some of the Module 1 skills you have to acquire.
