Route Baldock loop Distance 50 miles Time 1 hour Brief description Great excuse to bypass the A1

Motorcycle News (UK) - - Garage -

Amotorway service area may not sound like the ideal starting point, but there is a fantastic road to ride within spitting distance of Baldock services on the A1(M).

The A507 leads from Baldock through Buntingford and on towards Saffron Walden and is a superb stretch of road with a few grippy and quick corners that are challenging as well as great fun to ride. Itõs not what you expect so close to the motorway and is almost worth dropping off the A1(M), going for a blast, and then returning to break the monotony of a long journey.

Once you cross the M11 it is best to keep to the left of Saffron Walden, passing by Audley House before picking up the M11 for a single junction and turning off at Duxford. The Imperial War Museum is at junction 10 and there is no excuse not to stop for a few hours and gaze at the Battle of Britain aircraft. From Duxford take the A505 towards Royston before returning to Baldock. For more riding, the A1060 south of Bishopõs Stortford and B184 towards Chipping Ongar are excellent and, with the A113, can link back to the M11 to return you back to the start.

Well, this beats an overpriced danish pastry
