Carbon discs in the rain
Marc Marquez was one of a handful of riders who took the unusual step in Sunday’s race of experimenting with carbon brake discs instead of the steel discs that normally feature as part of Motogp’s wet weather set-up.
With carbon needing more temperature to operate safely and prone to cooling too much in the wet, riders normally rely instead on traditional steel.
Marquez said: “I’ve never used carbon brakes in the wet. The team told me to use steel discs, but I need to be the one to take the decision. I chose carbon because I knew I was going to lose on acceleration, but with them I was able to gain on the brakes.”
