BYRNE & BIRD
THE STORY SO FAR
Byrne joined Bird’s then Monster mob Ducati team to replace 2002 British champion Steve Hislop. Stunning the paddock, Byrne took 12 wins on the way to his first British Superbike crown.
Byrne reunited with Bird after a challenging return to BSB with Rizla Suzuki in 2006. Riding the privateer Stobart Honda, Byrne took 10 podiums and a race victory on his way to fifth in the title fight.
After narrowly missing out on the title at HM Plant Honda, Byrne rejoined Bird as the Cumbrian effort returned from the world stage. They took Kawasaki’s first BSB title since 1992.
The duo made a shock switch to Ducati in 2016 – a manufacturer who hadn’t won a BSB race since 2010. It took them just three rounds to change that, before going on to win title number five.
