SCRAMBLER DESERT SLED
THE FACTS 75bhp 207kg Seat height 860mm
Check this out! The Urban Enduro model in the Scrambler family may have failed to ignite passions with the same verve as the rest of the range, but the new Desert Sled has just the right mix of retro and contemporary for those looking for a more cheeky option.
It’s certainly the most truly Scrambler-esque iteration in the lineup, and with its gold rims and oval tank decals it feels almost like a homage to the iconic Yamaha XT500 – and there’s nothing wrong with that.
As with the rest of the range, it uses the 803cc air-cooled two-valve-head motor mated to a steel trellis frame and capped off with a nice little steel tank.
Up front it rocks a gold laced 19in rim, while the rear gets a similarly bling 17in rim, and each wears the almost comic- book styled new Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR rubber. It’s a striking look.
To underline its desert skills, it has bear-claw footpegs with removable rubber inserts, and a fairly high 860mm seat. The frame has been reinforced to cope with more aggressive use, while the wide bars get a motocross-style brace, too. The fork is a super-fat, fullyadjustable 46 KYB unit, while the rear is a fully-adjustable KYB monoshock.
The price is expected to be around £9495, which feels a little sandy to us.
There’s not much to dislike about the Desert Sled’s looks
