Check this out! The Ur­ban En­duro model in the Scrambler family may have failed to ig­nite pas­sions with the same verve as the rest of the range, but the new Desert Sled has just the right mix of retro and con­tem­po­rary for those look­ing for a more cheeky op­tion.

It’s cer­tainly the most truly Scrambler-es­que it­er­a­tion in the lineup, and with its gold rims and oval tank de­cals it feels al­most like a homage to the iconic Yamaha XT500 – and there’s noth­ing wrong with that.

As with the rest of the range, it uses the 803cc air-cooled two-valve-head mo­tor mated to a steel trel­lis frame and capped off with a nice lit­tle steel tank.

Up front it rocks a gold laced 19in rim, while the rear gets a sim­i­larly bling 17in rim, and each wears the al­most comic- book styled new Pirelli Scor­pion Rally STR rub­ber. It’s a strik­ing look.

To un­der­line its desert skills, it has bear-claw foot­pegs with re­mov­able rub­ber in­serts, and a fairly high 860mm seat. The frame has been re­in­forced to cope with more ag­gres­sive use, while the wide bars get a motocross-style brace, too. The fork is a su­per-fat, fullyad­justable 46 KYB unit, while the rear is a fully-ad­justable KYB monoshock.

The price is ex­pected to be around £9495, which feels a lit­tle sandy to us.

There’s not much to dis­like about the Desert Sled’s looks
