THE FACTS O 54bhp 238kg O Seat height 820mm

Honda have a history of building insane scooters that answer a question noone asked – and following the DN-01 and NM4 Vultus comes the X-ADV.

Conceived by Honda’s design team in Italy, the X-ADV has an elevated stance that Honda say gives it an ‘off-road ready attitude’. We can’t wait to try it away from the tarmac, though its 17in front and 15in rear wheels aren’t likely to make light work of tough terrain.

Under that tall 820mm seat is 21 litres of storage capacity, and with the bars set at 910mm it’s going to feel like a weird enduro/scooter riding position. The X-ADV also has a five-way adjustable screen, tapered aluminium handlebar, Africa Twin handguards, a Rally-style instrument display and a centrestand. A Smart Key means you can leave the electronic fob in your pocket, and just jump on and ride.

At the end of the long-travel suspension are spoked rims and dualpurpose tyres, and twin radial-mount four-piston calipers at the front.

Honda’s Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) is standard, with two fully automatic modes and a manual setting. All this makes the most of the Nc-derived 745cc parallel-twin engine, which Honda claim will return 79mpg if you’re riding like a saint.
