“I freely admit to turning on the heated seat just 30 minutes after we set off!” writes Sarah Tuckwell. “Being a pillion means you are familiar with buffeting and always trying to duck behind the rider, but with the screen fully extended there is a huge difference, immediately you can release the tension in your neck and start to appreciate the scenery. You can even sing along to the radio without the wind whistling past your ears.
“Once we reached the scenic route the BMW was much more fun, the engine’s power meant that overtaking was effortless. I thoroughly enjoyed the journey and as the sun set we reached our destination warm, sheltered and without a numb posterior.
“A quick word about luggage: I packed three outfits, which included a leather jacket and winter boots, a large cosmetic bag, and hair straighteners too.”
