‘Here and now I’d take the MT’
As Kar and I motor back across the back roads, I can see how the Tuono won the MCN group test earlier this year; in dry, warm weather, with a racetrack as part of the test, it would be able to stretch its legs and make the most of its RSV4 sportsbike heritage. The suspension that feels remote on a cold, wet road would come alive when some force was applied to it; and the engine, given full rein, would shine. Kar remembers what that feels like and prefers the Tuono. Would he be tempted by the MT? “No, it’s close, but it’s a no,” he says. “I’m keeping my Aprilia!”
But here and now, on greasy roads and with an emphasis on fast fun more than fast forward, I’d take the MT-10. The fact it’s nearly five grand cheaper than the Tuono is simply a bonus; and I’d spend some of the difference on a pipe and a fly screen.
