Taking Ôthe easy way downõ
‘Taking the long way round’ proved a real adventure for Charley Boorman and Ewan Mcgregor but not everyone has that level of time for their annual touring holidays. Sometimes you just want to get to your destination as quickly as possible and start having fun riding some of the best roads in Europe. And this is where Bikeshuttle can really help.
It can whisk your bike overnight through France to Geneva while you fly out to meet it. You wake up, feeling refreshed and your bike is ready after breakfast for you to begin your journey.
The service runs every week from mid May to September. You take your bike to the Northants-based depot on a Tuesday morning (it can be collected for a fee). It’s safely and securely loaded onto a purpose-built trailer and driven down through France, arriving at Geneva early on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, for a nominal price, you get a leisurely transfer, via a local pub for brunch, to Luton airport to catch your flight to Geneva. You can make your own travel arrangements but a lot of customers use the service recommended as it proves really straightforward, and easily comparable cost-wise.
Bikeshuttle was launched in 2015 and in only its second year of trading, was delighted to end the 2016 season having relocated to larger premises and transported some 211 motorbikes; 160% up on its inaugural year.
Guy Buswell, co-founder of Bike- shuttle, said: “Riders love that we save them not only the tedium of riding 1500 miles of motorways through France, but that they also get to enjoy more quality time on decent roads.”
One customer, John Hutchinson described Bikeshuttle as taking you straight to biking heaven. And certainly most people agreed that it is the easy way to get to central Europe. One rider, Will Slater, posted: “What a brilliant service. Cheaper than driving (don’t forget rear tyre costs as well!) and saves two days or boring Northern France. Brilliantly run, very smooth, very professional. We’ll be back next year.”
Dates for 2017 departures/returns are now live on bikeshuttle.co.uk where prices start at £435 for returns. The service offers the easiest, most costeffective way to tour central Europe or visit race meetings like Motogp.
Overnight stays in Geneva can all be organised through Bikeshuttle as can bike storage at both ends of the journey, making weekend breaks to the Alps a real possibility. Kit and luggage are all transported in special cases on the lorry, leaving riders with just hand baggage for the flight. ■ Enquiries about the Bikeshuttle service can be made at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by calling 01327 831552.
