‘ The 959 is just a bit more fun...’
At a normal, Sunday road bike pace, the 959 is a more appropriate bike than the 1299 S, despite lacking the bells and whistles. Its whip-crack steering and more accessible engine performance just win the day, let alone the price-saving winning the monthly repayment battle. The Minigale may not have pub bragging rights, but it’s ultimately just a bit more fun than the Panigale – which suffers from the same issues as all the litre sportsbikes: you have to be serious about speed to get much back from them on the road. “That’s the one thing these two have in common with the old Ducati sportsbikes,” says James. “People often preferred the baby versions.” He’s right, they did – but, having said that, it’s worth remembering the 959 is larger than the 916. And that shows how far Ducati have come.
