Q Will changing water pump make my blood boil?

Motorcycle News (UK) - - Garage -

My 2011 Yamaha R1 has a fluid leak from the bottom of the engine which I’m told is the water pump. Is it possible to repair it by replacing the seals only? I’m a pretty competent mechanic, but if I think it’s beyond me what would the cost of a professional repair be?

ACharles Marvell, Flitwick Motorcycles The job entails removing the bodywork, radiator and exhaust, sump, the entire clutch and the oil cooler. Once all this has been achieved, the pump assembly can be removed from the bottom of the engine. The water pump seal can then be replaced. It’s not a cheap job, I estimate six hours labour.
