BRAVE SCOT BACK AFTER OZ TRAUMA
While John Mcphee may have secured his future, injuries sustained while fighting for the podium at Phillip Island back in October have kept him trapped in Australia for almost two months.
Mcphee punctured both lungs in the fall, leaving him unable to travel and meaning that he only returns to the UK this week.
“The first couple of weeks weren’t bad, and once I was able to get up and do stuff it became almost like a holiday,” he said. “But it’s at the point now where I’ve been there long enough and I’m ready to head home. I’ve had people out with me thankfully though – my mum and dad came almost right away after the crash, and they stayed for a week and then my sister and her boyfriend came out for two weeks as well.
“The Motogp insurance has been spot on, and they sent a doctor out to fly home with me. At first, they wanted to see all my scans and x-rays of my chest, in case I was trying to blag a holiday, I guess.”
And to make matters even worse, the combination of his lung injuries and a badly broken thumb that required multiple surgeries, the last of them on Friday, means he wasn’t even able to train.
He said: “I got back into the gym two weeks ago, but I’m still really restricted in what I can do. I’m not healed enough to run, so I can cycle for cardio and that’s about it. With weights, I still can’t lift anything with my left arm because it’s in a plastic cast that’s restricting movement.”

Family visits have kept Mcpheeõs spirits up while he is stuck in Oz
