How I laughed when I read the letter from Robert Garnham (MCN, November 23). He thinks that when the UK quits the EU, our bikes won’t be subject to burdensome regs. Well, ‘our bikes’ are mostly either made in Europe, in which case there won’t be any concessions made, or Japan who won’t change a minority of their production to suit him either. That leaves Triumph, who make a large part of their production for Europe and beyond and a few minor players who also won’t want to split their production between markets. Perhaps what he had in mind was a resurrection of a few good old British makes like Francis-barnett and the like. We can wear ex-army trenchcoats and wellies instead of Ce-marked protective gear and re-learn the art of de-coking the heads every few hundred miles. Pass me the rose-tinted glasses! Peter Gates, Beds Ed – Francis-barnett are back!
