Don’t bodge your bars

Motorcycle News (UK) - - This Week -

I’ve just read the workshop article about handlebar swaps (MCN, December 7). I take issue with the suggestion that the switch gear locating dowels can be removed, or worse, ground down. On bikes where the throttle twist grip is part of the right hand switch gear, that dowel is all that stops the entire assembly sliding off the end of the handlebar, should the screws clamping the switch gear to the handle bar come loose, or

fail to grip the bar tightly enough. Far better to take a little more time and do the job correctly, drilling locating holes in the bars as in OEM practice. Richard Pitman, Worcester
