Q Can I wire in lights without blowing a fuse?

Motorcycle News (UK) - - Garage -

I have a Givi topbox with LED brake lights in it, is it possible to wire these into my BMW F800GS brake light without upsetting the CAN bus? Norman Grimley, email

Answered by Richard A Redmayne, Dynojet I think that the worst that will happen is a warning light on the dash if the system senses an unforeseen power drain. But because brake lights are only a potential issue occasionally, and not a constant drain like gear such as Power Commanders, the chances are you won’t have a problem. I’d temporarily mount the topbox on the pillion seat, secure it with some bungees, tap into the brake light circuit and go for a test ride then you’ll be good to go.
