HONDA BACK IN THE BIG TIME
It’s mad to think now, but back in 1977 Honda had been away from top-flight racing since 1967 after major rule changes to bring race bikes closer to road bikes left Japanese bike builders having to start from scratch. Honda walked away. But in 1977 the Big H announced a bold plan to fight back. And so they did, in typical Honda style revealing an oval-pistoned four-stroke. The NR500 made its debut in 1979 British GP but Takazumi Katayama and Mick Grant failed to finish.
