Raw materials and the tube mill
Akrapovič pre-order the special titanium alloy a year-and-a-half in advance from one American and two Japanese suppliers, typically to a value of £5-7 million. The tube mill is a long amalgamation of cogs and presses that looks like a 19th century machine, whizzing and popping with steam. It’s rare for an exhaust manufacturer to produce their own tubes, but Akrapovič took the risk. The titanium is delivered in coils; the coil is fed into the machine like yarn, rolled into a tube, welded and smoothed in one continual process.
