Two new factory options Drive train modifications Optional next-gen Dynamic ESA
BMW’S 2017 GS adds a raft of dynamic improvements to the significant drivetrain upgrades already bestowed upon the platform in late 2016.
The R1200GS aftermarket catalogue has always been big enough to exceed a pannier’s weight limit, meaning that you could build pretty much whatever version you want, but this new Rallye option panders to those who wanted the stock GS blended with some of the more off-road focused cues from the GS Adventure – without having to buy the more imposing GSA.
The GS Rallye comes on cross-spoke laced rims for improved off-road capability and versatility, and while they still come on road tyres, you can spec it to arrive on knobblies. The Rallye also gets a Rallye seat, sports windshield, radiator and frame guard. With its overtly more rugged styling, it also benefits from wider enduro footrests and the cross-spoke wheels. Suspension upgrades are also available if you want to really go tonto off-road. It’s the best of both worlds, giving the now highly refined GS a bit of the rough-and-ready character of the original R80G/S, while stopping short of the gargantuan excesses of the Adventure. There’s also a Sport version available, with more rider support systems and extras, which pushes the price up to £14,625.
