The FL family of tourers, including this one, get the new 107 Milwaukee-eight engine for 2017 – and it’s rather good. To boost both performance and efficiency, the new Milwaukee-eight is not just larger-capacity (1745cc from 1690cc) it has four-valve heads for the first time each with twin plugs. These hotterrunning heads in turn demand a more efficient cooling system, so, again for the first time, a subtle oil cooler is used on the more naked baggers such as the Road King here, while the faired full-dressers, such as the Glide get liquid-cooled heads. The result is more torque, power and fuel economy. The engine and gearbox are also smoother without losing that Harley character.
