Lee Jackson joins Smiths BMW
Joining Hickman at Smiths BMW for the 2017 season, MCE British Superbike young gun Lee Jackson will be looking to raise his game after an impressive year with the Buildbase BMW squad in 2016.
At 21 he’s the youngest rider on the grid and he turned a few heads with his pace in 2016. He finished 13th overall and had a handful of top ten finished. Now he’s signed for the Smiths team and feels it’s time to push for a Showdown spot.
Making the move in spite of an offer to remain with the Hawk Racing squad, which will switch to Suzuki machinery for the 2017 season, Jackson has told MCN the time was right for a change as he looks to progress his Superbike career.
“I’m really looking forward to joining a new team in 2017,” he said. “This is an all new step for me having ridden for the Buildbase team for the past four seasons but I’m really looking forward to the change.
“For me, I think it’s time for me to step up in my racing career and for the first time I won’t be working with my Uncle and Dad in the team. The Smiths team have a great package and I believe we can do a good job with the bike, although it’s a BMW it’s going to be a bit different to what I’m used to but I’m really looking forward to getting started.”
