‘ This is Guy’s best chance to win a TT yet’

Motorcycle News (UK) - - This Week - STEPHEN DAVISON ROADS REPORTER

ÒIF you canõt beat them, join them.ó appears to be Guy Martinõs thinking behind his TT return with Honda. John Mcguinness has used a Honda Fireblade to frustrate the Lincolnshire racerõs TT ambitions for a decade and Guy has now decided his best chance of winning will be on the new Honda. Is he right? Guy is returning from a sabbatical year that saw the game move on significantly in his absence. Even Mcguinness was reduced to an alsoran by the TT 2016 pace of Michael Dunlop and Ian Hutchinson and the duoõs clean sweep in the big bike races highlighted the dominance of the S1000RR BMW.

Nor is it ideal that Guy will be going to the Island on a new bike like the CBR1000RR SP2, although he will have the support of a team that has won more TTS than anyone else. His new Honda will also be shod with Dunlop tyres, the winning rubber of every Superbike and Senior TT race bike since 2008.

Guy has beaten all of his TT rivals at one time or another and thereõs no question he has the pace to win a race on the Mountain course.

If his new Honda can match the speed of the BMWS and Guy can avoid the lapses of concentration that have cost him vital seconds in the past then maybe Lady Luck will provide the final ingredient and we will all enjoy the new public holiday Ian Hutchinson says a Guy Martin TT win will surely bring.
