BSB BOSSES TAKE OVER DONINGTON
The firm behind the MCE British Superbike Championship have bought the lease to run Donington Park for at least the next 21 years.
Motorsport Vision, owned by former F1 driver Jonathan Palmer, acquired the lease from circuit owner Kevin Wheatcroft to see Donington join MSV’S already vast portfolio of UK racing circuits including Brands Hatch, Oulton Park, Cadwell Park and Snetterton.
Palmer has been interested in Donington since the collapse of the circuit’s F1 deal in 2009, but saw now as an ideal time to add the venue to MSV’S line-up.
The move comes in uncertain times for both the British Motogp and F1 races, which are currently held at Silverstone. The Motogp race is contracted to take place at the yet-to-be-built Circuit of Wales, but with it widely anticipated the Welsh project will fail, the British GP could soon be back on the market and the acquisition of Donington gives MSV the option should they wish to bid for the race.
“Donington is a good British circuit that deserves further investment, energy and expertise in order to make it truly outstanding, and MSV will provide this,” Palmer said. “We plan a great new era for Donington, with some exciting new events and much enhanced quality of experience for all of its customers, whether spectators, competitors and track day participants, together with even better value.”
